Antique renaissance sideboard – MAE59

Antique tuscan sideboard by classic motifs “Bambocci”, originally owned by a antiquities dealer of Ravenna, it was probably recovered in a antique villa of noble family.

The special feature of this sideboard are “Bambocci”; decorative element in human form (cherub, head) sculpted or carved in high relief or full relief on the drawers and along the side jambs and the corners of drawers, cabinets and other containers late sixteenth century, dignified and monumental character. The “Bambocci” are often alternated with plant motifs or garlands of flowers or fruit. Particularly important in the furniture production Ligurian, Tuscan, Lombard. Generally the furniture “Bambocci” are produced by the Genoese in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, human figures carved in wood in the round, both with decorative function both as knobs or handles of drawers.
